David Ericksen currently serves as a Member of Severson & Werson's Executive Committee after serving as President from 2009-2012. Since 1997, Mr. Ericksen has led the Firm's construction/environmental litigation and transactional practice, as well as focusing on liability and insurance issues through insurers. In 2012, he represented design professionals in jury trial, bench trial, single arbitrator arbitration, and panel arbitration. He also focuses on contractual, risk management and litigation issues affecting the design and construction professional community, and provides these services as general counsel to firms.

Mr. Ericksen joined Severson & Werson in 1991, and has been a member since 1997. He has been the Firm's lead construction trial counsel since 1996. He is a frequent speaker before construction professional organizations such as the AIA, SEA, ACEC California, CSI and others, and also provides in-house training seminars for firms. He has written numerous articles addressing issues important to the design and construction communities, such as "16 Contract Provisions You Need to Know" (PE Magazine, March 2011), The 2013 AIA Handbook chapter on "Dispute Resolutions," "A Sustainable Standard of Care: Managing, Evolving and Innovative Products, Processes, Performance Standards in Design Delivery" by the AIA Trust, and “The Collections-Claim Connection: Getting Paid Without Getting Sued” by ACEC.

Mr. Ericksen has been named a Northern Californian "Super Lawyer" for ten consecutive years. He and his wife of 28 years live in the East Bay and have four children. Their family is active with athletics, Acalanes High School, and community theater and music.

Joel Halverson is a problem solver and trial lawyer who focuses his practice in the areas of professional liability, construction, real property and general litigation. A member of the firm's Construction and Insurance Groups, Mr. Halverson has been named among the "Best Lawyers in the Bay Area" for construction litigation based on a survey conducted by Bay Area Lawyer Magazine.

Mr. Halverson defends architects, engineers, attorneys, medical providers, real estate brokers and other professionals against allegations of errors and omissions and other claims. In the construction and design arena, Mr. Halverson represents design professionals, developers, owners and contractors in litigation as well as transactional and risk-management counseling. Mark Lonergan is Severson & Werson's Managing Partner. He is an experienced commercial litigator and trial lawyer, emphasizing consumer class actions, financial institution litigation, and complex business disputes.

Mr. Lonergan has defended nationwide and state-wide class actions brought under a variety of state and federal consumer protection statutes, including the Truth-In-Lending Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (both California and federal), the Fair Credit Reporting Act, California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act, Unruh Act and "Unfair Competition Law," federal and state leasing acts, and various state-specific consumer finance statutes. He has also defended well over 100 lawsuits alleging violation of California's "Unfair Competition Law," sections 17200 and 17500 of California's Business & Professions Code, which prohibit unfair business practices and false advertising. Mr. Lonergan has defended claims brought under similar state statutes in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio and Tennessee.

Mr. Lonergan also has extensive experience in the areas of forced-placed insurance, dealer reserve litigation, lender liability, bankruptcy code violations, shareholders' rights, automobile finance litigation, real estate finance litigation, and insurance coverage disputes.

Jeane Struck, Member in the firm's Construction and Insurance practice groups, specializes in the litigation of professional liability, construction defect, product liability, premises liability, recreational liability, habitability and garage liability claims. In defending professional liability claims Ms. Struck has represented architects, geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, civil engineers, physicians, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists and massage therapists.

Ms. Struck was previously a shareholder at Grunsky, Ebey, Farrar and Howell in Santa Cruz County, and Of Counsel at Selman Breitman, LLP in San Francisco. She also worked as a senior litigator at Mac Morris & Carbone in San Francisco, house counsel for California State Automobile Association, where her work included the representation of CSAA in first party litigation and the analysis of proposed legislation.

Ms. Struck is active in the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada, serving on its Board of Directors from 1990-1994 and 2004-2009. Ms. Struck is also a member of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association. She has lectured at seminars sponsored by the ADCNC and SFTLA, and for private continuing education providers. Jan Chilton is a member of the firm, specializing in litigation with an emphasis on the appellate courts. He has extensive trial experience, both in jury and non-jury trials.

Mr. Chilton represents financial institutions, other businesses, and individuals in appeals and extraordinary writ proceedings in state and federal appellate courts. The appeals and writ proceedings have involved a broad range of issues including antitrust, bankruptcy, civil procedure, contracts, commercial law, construction disputes, insurance coverage, labor law, psychotherapy issues, securities, and wrongful termination of employees.

Mr. Chilton defends financial institutions against class actions and in judicial and administrative proceedings, based on violations of consumer protection and unfair competition statutes. These cases have involved issues under the Sherman and Clayton Acts, the Robinson-Patman Act, California's Cartwright Act and Unfair Business Practices Act.

Mr. Chilton joined the firm in 1973, and has been a member since 1980. He has worked as a litigation attorney for the National Housing Law Project, and has served as a law clerk to Justice Raymond Sullivan, California Supreme Court. He is a member of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers.

The 2012-13 President of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers, the state's preeminent association of appellate advocates, Jan Chilton heads Severson's appellate practice group.
