Kowalski Construction has been doing business here in the Phoenix market since 1967 and our primary focus is insurance restoration. During this time we have worked with all of the major insurance and independent adjustment companies giving us a broad insight on claims handling processes and procedures.

We are extremely familiar with 3rd party claims handling and working as part of a team along with the property owner, insurance adjuster and insurer. We understand the individual needs and roles that each plays throughout the claims handling process. Our processes and procedures have been designed around filling those needs in a systematic approach that ensures consistency. We pride ourselves on managing not only the construction project, but the communication to all parties concerned as well.

We believe that strong documentation is in the best interest of all parties and take the lead in doing this from the preparation of the estimate or billing, the included notation and in our computer system, a well documented project helps to avoid problems.

High Profile Cases

7263-02-S Sabino High School -- Description: Six weeks before the opening day of school, a small fire in an art room escalated to a level that would cause enough fire and smoke damage to jeopardize opening of Sabino High School. Although the administration and teaching staff of the school offered to clean all of the fire and smoke damage themselves. A Kowalski Construction estimator inspected the damage and knew that this was a daunting task. A 36,000 square foot area had been smoke damaged. Everything in the High School would have to be inventoried, from bookcases and books, down to each pencil. The School District and the principal hired Kowalski Construction. We removed and replaced all of the acoustic tiles in every classroom and the drywall ceiling in both hallways. Over 75% of the ductwork needed cleaning and the sheet metal for a very large HVAC unit was removed and replaced. The classroom that was burnt had to be demolished and rebuilt. The entire interior of the building was painted. It took a mere 6 weeks to have 40 classrooms ready for 40 teachers to go to work. The mission was accomplished on time with everything in its place and kids coming through the doors just as planned. The principal, Rusty Doty, was quoted as saying "A school district which has used several contractors has never been taken care of as we have been."

9045-01-S Rousseau,Will/W.Berridge Ln -- Description: This Architectural Digest Candidate home located in an exclusive Phoenix neighborhood suffered almost 300k in fire damage. The reconstruction was completed to current code standards and included some convenience modernizations without adversely impacting this home's classic feel. Creative construction methods were employed that reduced costs, protected the homes distinctive features, reduced exposure to the elements and preserved the inherent beauty of real hardwood floors, ornate crown molding, custom cabinetry, detailed fireplaces and wainscoting.

Faced with concerns of devaluation we were not only able to completely accomplish our restoration goals but actually improve the value of an already magnificent home. We built boxes around the existing cabinets rather than risk damage to them during removal and reinstallation, protecting the cabinets during the construction process. The existing bathroom cabinetry was raised up to modern heights and the mirrors above them were replaced with full length pieces extending all the way to the ceilings. Damaged wallboard was removed up to the bottom of extremely ornate crown molding so that it could be left in place to reduce the possibility of damaging it during removal and reinstallation. The elaborate stairway and railing were removed, cataloged, refinished and reinstalled to avoid replacement. Shut off valves were added behind the wall for concealment for the new claw tub that we installed since the existing plumbing system was plumbed directly to the faucet.

After his inspection, a structural engineer identified the need to remove an exterior 2nd story bearing wall and the roof framing it was carrying in order to remove and replace the damaged 2nd story trussed floor joists. We were able to remove an interior wall instead and replace the joists from within the building envelope resulting in costs savings and preventing exposure to the outside elements.
